Rehoming Process

Careful steps. Lifelong outcomes.

Rehoming an animal from Pear Tree Farm Animal Sanctuary is not a quick decision, and it shouldn’t be.

Our rehoming process exists for one reason only: to protect the animals and ensure they are safe, respected, and cared for for life.

Every step is taken with compassion, patience, and the animal’s long-term welfare at heart.

Our Rehoming Promise

We promise to:

  • Put the animal’s wellbeing before speed or convenience

  • Take time to find the right home, not just a home

  • Be honest about each animal’s needs and history

  • Support adopters before, during, and after rehoming

Rehoming is a partnership, not a transaction.

Which Animals Are Rehomed?

Not every animal at the sanctuary is suitable for rehoming.

Rehoming is considered only when:

  • It is in the animal’s best interest

  • The animal is physically and emotionally ready

  • A suitable, welfare-aligned home is available

Some animals remain with us for life, because that is what they need.

The Rehoming Process

  • Step 1: Submit an Enquiry

You begin by completing our Rehoming / Adoption Enquiry Form, telling us about:

    • Your experience
    • Your setup and environment
    • The animals you’re interested in
    • Your understanding of long-term care

Honesty here is essential, it helps us protect everyone involved.

  • Step 2: Initial Conversation

If your enquiry looks suitable, we’ll be in touch to talk things through.

    This is a chance to:

    • Ask questions
    • Discuss the animal’s needs
    • Make sure expectations align

Not every enquiry will progress beyond this stage, and that’s okay.

  • Step 3: Suitability Checks

Depending on the animal, this may include:

    • Further discussions
    • Photos or videos of your setup
    • A home visit (where appropriate)

These checks are not about judgement, they’re about safety and welfare.

  • Step 4: Careful Matching

If everything feels right, we’ll carefully match the animal to the home.

    This may involve:

    • Waiting for the right timing
    • Gradual introductions
    • Clear guidance on transition and care

We move at the animal’s pace, always.

  • Step 5: Rehoming & Ongoing Support

Rehoming doesn’t end when the animal leaves the sanctuary.

    We remain available for:

    • Advice and guidance
    • Welfare check-ins
    • Support if challenges arise

The animal’s wellbeing always remains our priority.

What We Look For in a Home

  • Stability & Commitment

A lifelong home, not a temporary solution.

  • Appropriate Environment

Correct space, shelter, companionship, and enrichment.

  • Understanding & Patience

Animals arrive with history. Trust takes time.

  • Welfare-First Values

Compassion, respect, and ethical care, always.

Important Things to Know

Please be aware:

  • Rehoming is not first-come, first-served

  • We may say no if a home isn’t suitable

  • Some animals require experienced homes

  • The process can take time

  • Decisions are always made in the animal’s best interest

These boundaries keep animals safe, and give them the future they deserve.

If Rehoming Isn’t Right

Sometimes, the kindest outcome is recognising that rehoming isn’t the right path.

If adoption isn’t suitable, there are still many ways to help:

  • Sponsor an animal

  • Donate to support daily care

  • Fundraise or volunteer

  • Share our work with others

Every form of support matters.
